Miller Center and Eastman School

Eastman Place was developed by Wilmur Associates, a group headed by local developer Wilmorite, a local developer, to house the Sibley Music Library along with retail establishments. The building opened in 1989 on the block bounded by East Main, Chestnut and Gibb streets and East Avenue. It was bought by the University in 2003. It was renamed the Miller Center in September 2004 after Abram Calmen and Hinda Rosenblum Miller, the parents of Rochester native and Eastman School of Music alumni Mitch Miller.

Rochester native Mitch Miller, 93 a fabled music performer and producer who made Sing Along With Mitch a staple of the 1950s is returning to town Sept. 9 to be honored with a 3 p.m. ceremony at his alma mater, the Eastman School of Music. Eastman Place the building at 25 Gibbs St. that houses the Sibley Music Library, Eastman School offices and Max restaurant will be dedicated to the memory of Miller's parents, Abram Calmen and Hinda Rosenblum Miller, and officially renamed Miller Center.
