2009 "$10 million gift to transform neuromedicine at Medical Center," Currents 37(4), July 27, 2009
In May, University and Medical Center announced the formation of the Ernest J. Del Monte Neuromedicine Institute, made possible by a founding gift from Rochester entrepreneur Ernest J. Del Monte. Del Monte says that his family’s $10 million gift—the second largest in the Medical Center’s history—is the first installment toward what he hopes will amount to a $20 million commitment to the institute over time. The institute will serve as a hub for a host of research centers and growing clinical care programs throughout the Medical Center and the River Campus. Since it will focus primarily on bringing laboratory breakthroughs to everyday patient care, neuroscientists working in translational medicine will be relocated together into the current Medical Research Building Extension, which will be renamed the Ernest J. Del Monte Neuromedicine Institute.
