The University suspended classes for a short period in 1918 due to the influenza pandemic.
The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a move to remote learning in March 2020, while employees were encouraged to work remotely where possible. A mask requirement was introduced in the Medical Center shortly thereafter and also in non-medical facilities. Non-medical buildings reopened in August 2020 and the mask requirement for non-medical areas was temporarily suspended in 2021 but reinstated shortly thereafter. Masking was again suspended for non-medical areas on March 4, 2022 but reintroduced on April 15th. In June a tier system was introduced to determine face mask guidance.
